The Bedford-Stuyvesant Family Health Center (BSFHC) is a patient-centered, team based multi-specialty practice located in central Brooklyn.  BSFHC has been providing affordable, comprehensive, outpatient medical and dental services in an outpatient setting for over 40 years.  As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), BSFHC serves all of the primary health care needs of families in the heart of North and Central Brooklyn. Our mission is to provide the most professional, courteous and highest quality health care, with dignity, to those we serve, especially the undeserved population, without regard for ability to pay.

We have an opportunity for a MSW, Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or LCSW to provide quality, competent, safe and compassionate care with therapy and Concrete services based on established standards in a patient-focused preventative, treatment care and counseling. 

A PLUS - Knowledge of the DSM –V, understanding of psychosis, OCD, and Substance Use Disorder Counseling
. Recovery oriented and trauma informed. Motivational Interviewing techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Behavioral Activation. 

Bilingual Spanish required.  Must be able to work onsite and every other Saturday.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Interview patients to determine their specific service need(s).
  • Assess and provide a brief model of psychotherapy to patients who screen positive for mild to moderate mental health conditions in a medical setting
  • Provide short-term counseling to help patients adjust to new physical/mental diagnoses.  Counseling sessions should focus on helping patient to comply with establish treatment plans and offer a level of professional and moral support during the adjustment period and service coordination.
  • Assisting patients and their families in the process of obtaining maximum benefits available for medical and/or financial entitlement.
  • Assess and refer patients for appropriate psychiatric and/or mental health services.
  • Provide crisis intervention to patients with an emergency. Such as referral to food pantries, emergency housing assistance, drug treatment, shelters and domestic violence services.
  • Concrete services referral

Education/Experience Required:

  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • LMSW/LCSW preferred
  • 2 years experience 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues.

Other Related Skills/Experience:

  • Experience/An understanding of eClinical Works is helpful.
  • The ability to demonstrate teamwork and effective interpersonal relations skills is imperative.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and computer skills are required.
  • Ability to foster and maintain a positive working relationship in a multidisciplinary team and clients

Hourly Salary:  $65,000 and based on experience and credentials
